YSU to honor outstanding alumni Oct. 28

The Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University will honor five outstanding alumni at its 21st annual alumni banquet Oct. 28 at Williamson Hall.

Recipients of the awards are: Walter Avdey, CPA, a 1985 bachelor of science in business administration graduate who is a partner at Ernst & Young; Jim Gasior, CPA, BSBA 1982, president and chief executive officer of Cortland Banks; Sonia Salvino, CPA, a 1992 master of business administration graduate who is vice president of finance for University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center; Robert Bole, BSBA 2008, vice president of global markets for Deutsche Bank; and Nayef Zarrour, CPA, BSBA 2009, chief operating officer of High Tide Capital Management, a global macroeconomic hedge fund based out of New York.

Avdey will receive an “Outstanding Business Alumnus Award.” He has more than 31 years of experience with Ernst & Young, with 17 as an assurance partner.

Gasior also will receive an “Outstanding Business Alumnus Award.” Gasior has been with Cortland Bancorp since 1991 and has been president and CEO since 2009.

Salvino will receive the “Outstanding MBA Alumna Award.” Salvino joined University Hospitals in 1998 and has been in several leadership roles in finance and operations at the medical center before being named vice president of finance in 2008.

Bole will receive an “Outstanding Recent Alumnus Award.” In 2015, he became a part of Deutsche Bank’s Wall Street office. He helps with U.S. regulatory strategy and implementation for the Global Markets Division.

Zarrour also will receive an “Outstanding Recent Alumnus Award.” After graduating from YSU in 2009, he earned his CPA designation and co-founded Azork Ltd., a technology company that built and distributed a social and productivity platform for private communities.
