Man faces drug charges after arrest

Reports said police found small amounts of heroin and fentanyl as well as methamphetamine Thursday afternoon on a man who was a passenger in a car pulled over about 5:55 p.m. at Hylda and Idlewood avenues for an improper turn.

Reports said officers could see a digital scale underneath Bryan Harris, 31, who reports say is homeless. They asked him to get out of the car so they could search him.

Harris was booked into the Mahoning County jail on charges of possession of heroin and possession of drugs. He also had $1,286 cash on him, reports said.

Homeowners report robbery

YOUNGSTOWN

Police said two men and a woman, all armed, got away with $200 cash about 9:50 p.m. Thursday from a home in the 2600 block of Vestal Road. Reports said the man and woman living in the home told police the three burst inside and said, “Give us the stuff.” The man was hit in the face and stomach. The intruders took the cash from a dresser drawer in a bedroom and ran away, reports said.

YWCA’s Week Without Violence

YOUNGSTOWN

As part of the YWCA’s Week Without Violence, YWCA of Youngstown will host “Words That Heal” from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday at 25 W. Rayen Ave.

YWCA and Youngstown State University students from the YSU chapter of the National Organization for Women, the Student Literary Arts Association and Sisters With a Vision are partners in this event to offer a look at gender-based violence and its impact on women, their families and their community.

Students will read pieces that have impacted their lives and share their gender-based violence stories. The event is free.

For more than 20 years, the YWCA has set aside one week in October for Week Without Violence. This year, Week Without Violence, Oct. 17-21, focuses on ending gender-based violence.
