Former Pa. attorney general may seek nonjail sentence

NORRISTOWN, Pa.

Lawyers for former Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane are hinting they will seek probation or house arrest when she is sentenced on perjury and obstruction charges.

They have filed papers asking for a home confinement assessment. The defense argues that Kane is a first-time, nonviolent offender and the primary caregiver for her two children.

The 50-year-old Kane is set to be sentenced Oct. 24 on two felony and seven misdemeanor counts.

A jury in August found she leaked grand jury documents to a newspaper and lied about it under oath. Kane stepped down after the conviction.

Her lawyers say she faces a guideline range of probation to nine months in jail.
