Boardman elementary school students visited Boardman High School to watch a performance from the Boardman marching band on Sept. 13.

Students from West Boulevard, Robinwood Lane, Market Street, Stadium Drive and Leonard Kirtz School spent an afternoon enjoying music and watching the marching band, flagline and majorettes perform. The marching band, which is made up of more than 150 members, is one of the largest in Ohio.

While the elementary students found their seats in the bleachers, the drum line performed songs as the rest of the band got prepared. The first performance put on by the band was writing out “Ohio” in cursive while playing “Script Ohio.”

The teachers from the elementary schools had to opportunity to see some of the high school students they used to teach. During a break between songs, the announcer mentioned the different schools that were at the performance. The band students would raise their arms or make some noise to show which school they attended while in elementary school.

Elementary students called the Semi Sweethearts went on the field with the Boardman Spartan Sweethearts to participate in a dance they learned. The Semi Sweethearts practice throughout the summer with the Spartan Sweethearts to learn dances together.

The band played a variety of songs while the elementary students had the opportunity to enjoy an afternoon in the sun. When the band finished, the elementary students went back to their bus to go back to school and pack up to go home.
