A 3.9-mill, five-year police levy that will generate $750,000 annually. The levy will cost the owner of a $100,000 home $137 annually.

The city does not have any police levies.

Canfield Police Department has 14 full-time officers and two part-time officers, excluding the chief.

Cardinal Joint Fire District Renewal Levy

A 0.42-mill, five-year renewal levy that will generate $183,054 annually and will cost the owner of a $100,000 home $14.70 annually.

The levy pays for operating costs including repair and maintenance on the trucks, yearly maintenance on the fire hoses and checks on the high-tech heart monitors that check for heart attacks and carbon monoxide poisoning.

The Cardinal Joint Fire District has six full-time and 32 part-time firefighters/EMTs/paramedics.

A firefighter’s average salary is $45,000 working 2,912 hours per year or 56 hours per week.

The fire district’s total budget for 2016 was approximately $1.8 million.
