Brady won’t discuss Trump comments
FOXBOROUGH, MASS.
Tom Brady isn’t interested in answering any questions about Donald Trump.
The Patriots quarterback was asked at the end of his weekly news conference Wednesday about how he would respond if his kids heard Trump’s version of “locker room talk.”
Brady smiled and said only “Thank you guys, have a good day” before walking away.
Trump made headlines recently after a 2005 video of him surfaced in which he is recorded making crude comments about women. He has since apologized for the comments, referring to it as “locker room talk.”
Several current and former athletes have spoken out about that characterization, with many saying that locker room comments don’t rise to the level the presidential candidate described.
Last year Brady was spotted with one of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” hats in his locker. The quarterback walked back a comment he made that he thought it “would be great” if Trump won the election.
Judge won’t declare mistrial in Rose case
LOS ANGELES
Lawyers for a woman who filed a lawsuit accusing NBA star Derrick Rose and two of his friends of rape failed to disclose text messages to the defense, but the lapse was not significant enough to derail the civil trial, a judge ruled Wednesday.
Lawyers for Rose had argued that the plaintiff’s lawyers purposely withheld three texts until the woman finished testifying so the defense couldn’t ask about messages that showed she had been plotting sex on the night in question and, on the following day, was seeking taxi reimbursement and not accusing anyone of rape.
U.S. District Court Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald said the accuser’s legal team had failed its legal obligation to share the texts, but there was a “minimal amount of prejudice” against Rose and his friends.
The judge said he would instruct jurors that the texts were disclosed recently and allow defense lawyers to question the accuser about the messages.
Gretzky named VP with Oilers
EDMONTON, Alberta
Wayne Gretzky has returned to the Edmonton Oilers.
The Great One has been named partner and vice chairman of Oilers Entertainment Group. The Oilers made the announcement Wednesday at an unveiling of the refurbished Gretzky statue at the team’s new arena, Rogers Place.
Gretzky spent much of his Hall of Fame career in Edmonton, leading the Oilers to four Stanley Cup titles in the 1980s.
The NHL’s career scoring leader hasn’t held an official job in a league front office since he was part-owner, coach and head of hockey operations with the Phoenix Coyotes. He left the team in 2009.
The details of Gretzky’s role have not been finalized.
