Canfield Township trustees set leaf pickup dates and approved the renovation of a number of headstones at Dean Hill cemetery.
Leaf pickup days will differ by home, with different quadrants of the township serviced on different days.
Using U.S. Route 224 and state Route 46 as a dividing line, individuals living in the northwest and northeast quadrants will have pickup dates on Tuesday and Oct. 25, Nov. 1, 8 and 15.
For those living in the southwest and southeast quadrants, pickup dates will be next Thursday and Oct. 27, Nov. 3, 10 and 17.
In order to qualify for the pickup, participants must use recyclable bags. Township residents with a valid driver’s license can pick up five free bags at township hall. Additional bags cost $2 per bag.
Trustees said a number of the headstones at Dean Hill cemetery have toppled over or otherwise deteriorated. The historic cemetery includes headstones dating back to at least 1787.
A Canfield resident with family buried in the cemetery, Cheryl Soyka, is willing to make a donation to cover up to half the costs of the renovation project’s first phase. The first phase of the project has a $1,700 budget cap.
In other business, trustees learned that work on a blocked storm sewer at Pebble Beach Drive causing substantial flooding issues is complete and a similar project at Starr Centre Drive will begin soon, said Keith Rodgers, township administrator. The work at Starr Centre is expected to be completed before winter.
