A Girard City Schools teacher is on paid leave after a principal’s report to police led to a disorderly-conduct charge filed against him.
Daniel J. Nagle, 38, of Struthers will be arraigned Oct. 25 in Girard Municipal Court on the fourth-degree misdemeanor charge. Nagle teaches seventh- and eighth-graders.
Police responded to a complaint filed Sept. 27 by Jennifer Santangelo, the Girard Junior High School principal.
According to statements provided by a teacher and Santangelo to police, Nagle responded belligerently after having been written up by Santangelo.
Nagle purportedly swore and remarked he “was going to get her.” Santangelo told police she feared for her safety.
At the request of school Superintendent David Cappuzzello, police escorted Nagle from the building.
An officer wrote that due to the nature of the outbursts and that Nagle’s behavior was displayed at the school where students could have seen or witnessed the outbursts, he charged Nagle with disorderly conduct.
Cappuzzello said the district placed Nagle on leave Sept. 28.
The superintendent said the district is cooperating with police, but declined to comment further, citing personnel issues.
