AUSTINTOWN

Officers arrested a man after he attempted to burn his wife with a frying pan and led them on a police chase around the Austintown school buildings, police said.

According to the report, officers responded to a domestic-violence call on Inglewood Avenue on Saturday night after Ronald Szoke, 32, of Inglewood Avenue, attempted to burn his wife with a hot frying pan.

Reports said Szoke fled in his wife’s car, leading officers on a chase to the area where Austintown school buildings are. Szoke went into a ditch by Fitch High School and kept driving toward the football field, ending near Austintown Elementary School. From there, Szoke led police on a foot chase toward Westchester Apartments.

When officers caught Szoke, they found he ran with a jug of wine. Szoke was charged with domestic violence, failure to comply, resisting arrest, burglary and criminal damage. Officers also issued Szoke citations for failure to obey a traffic control device, a marked-lanes violation, driving with a suspended license and driving while intoxicated.

Szoke was advised of his court date at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Mahoning County Area Court.
