Achievement award

Retired Youngstown Detective Sgt. Delphine Baldwin-Casey was selected for the Ohio Distinguished Law Enforcement Lifetime Achievement Award and honored at the 2016 Law Enforcement Awards Luncheon, which was part of the Ohio Attorney General’s Law Enforcement Conference, last week at the Hyatt Regency Ballroom in Columbus.

Among her achievements are the Bethune-Height Award as a “Women of Distinction” as well as the Trailblazer Award for being the first female unit commander and the first frontline female supervisor in the Youngstown Police Department.

Baldwin-Casey created the YPD’s Family Services Investigation Division, formerly the Crisis Intervention Unit, in 1996 to deal with violent crimes against women and children. The unit progressed into a full division and has won several local and state awards.

During her retirement, Baldwin-Casey recruited minorities to join the police force and continues to work to bring the community and police together. She sponsors several workshops, seminars and police trainings in the Mahoning Valley.

The Diocese of Youngstown recently appointed Baldwin-Casey, a Campbell native, as victim-assistance coordinator. She is the first point of contact for people who claim to have been sexually abused by clergy, church personnel or volunteers.

Eagle rank

Joseph Martin Brady, grandson of James and Shirley Olson of Liberty and Edward and Margaret Brady of Westerville, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He is a member of Boy Scout Troop 1180 in Kansas City, Mo.

His Eagle Scout service project involved the replacement of a park bench at the St. Charles Elementary School playground in Kansas City.

Highlights of Brady’s scouting career include the achievement of the Triple Crown Award by participating in the High Adventure program. This program included Philmont, Sea Base and Northern Tier experiences.

Brady is a senior at St. Pius High School in Kansas City, where he participates in the school’s wrestling program.
