The city of Canfield changes trick or treat date

CANFIELD

City council changed the city’s trick-or- treat date from Oct. 29 to Oct. 31.

Councilman Charles Tieche suggested the change after receiving several calls from residents upset about the date chosen.

“We are the only community in Mahoning County not having trick or treat on [Oct.] 31,” he said.

All council members were in favor of the change except council President Don Dragish.

“I am very frustrated [Canfield] Township didn’t follow suit and now we have to change our date,” he said.

Trick-or-treat times are from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

In other news, council members approved an extension of time for the proposed annexation of 22 acres on Palmyra Road, south of U.S. Route 224 in Canfield Township, to the city of Canfield.

The resolution states the extension is for city council members and township trustees to resolve the issues about the annexation.

In early September, MALA Properties Ltd. of Canfield petitioned for the annexation.

Canfield city council approved the petition and Canfield Township trustees filed an objection with the Mahoning County commissioners.

The objection said the annexation would violate the Joint Economic Development District project agreement between the city and township.

The final decision rests with the county commissioners.
