YOUNGSTOWN

Police continue looking for a robber who got away with an unspecified amount of money about 12:20 p.m. Thursday from the Dollar General, 2981 McGuffey Road.

Reports said the robber, who had a shirt pulled over his face, ran out of the store toward Keogh Avenue. Police would not say if the man was armed.

Street to close

YOUNGSTOWN

Hazel Street between West Boardman and West Federal streets will be closed starting today for the demolition of the rear of the First Educators Investment Corp. building at 147 W. Federal St. The work should take about three weeks.

Pedestrians are urged by the city to use caution in and around the demolition site.

Park roads to close

YOUNGSTOWN

These roads in Mill Creek Park will be closed to vehicular traffic, cyclists and pedestrians from approximately 7 a.m. until noon Saturday for the Out of Darkness Suicide Prevention Walk: Bears Den Road, West, New Cross and Cross drives.

Survey about school district

West Branch Superintendent Tim Saxton hopes students, parents and community members complete a survey about the school district.

Road transfer

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County commissioners on Thursday approved the transfer of a 1,200-foot dead-end section of Silica Road in Austintown from being a county-maintained road to a township-maintained road.

The section being transferred is from Turner Road to Meander Reservoir.

The remainder of Silica Road in Austintown and Silica Road in Jackson Township will remain a county road.

The section of Silica being transferred does not meet the definition of a county road because it’s a dead end and there’s no county facility located on it, explained County Engineer Patrick Ginnetti.

Water alert lifted

The citywide boil-water alert issued Wednesday after a water main break at Murray Avenue and Robinson Road was lifted Thursday after test results came back showing the water is safe to drink.

YSU interim chief information officer

YOUNGSTOWN

Jim Yukech, a Youngstown State University alumnus and former vice president of IT relationship management/associate chief information officer at Mercy Health, is the interim chief information officer at YSU.

He replaces Ken Schindler, who has resigned.

Yukech was with Mercy Health for the past 26 years, ending his tenure in 2015.

Yukech earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering from YSU. For the past nine years, he has been an active member of the Youngstown Business Incubator board of directors, including the past three as chairman.
