Division III Northeast District Tournament

ALLIANCE

Brookfield and Columbiana, along with Warren JFK’s Jimmy Graham clinched a trip to the state tournament Thursday.

Brookfield (325) took first in team play at Tannenhauf Golf Club, beating Columbiana (327) by two strokes.

Brookfield’s top four was Connor Stevens (77), Justin Atkinson (82), Bryce Schell (82) and Nate Smoot (84). Columbiana’s Jared Wilson medaled, shooting 72. Seth Ross (79), Griffin Williams (83) and Matthew Pinciaro (93) round out the Clippers’ top four.

Graham shot 73 to finish in second individually to qualify for state.

SECTIONAL TENNIS

JFK’s Marlatt cruises

BOARDMAN

Warren JFK’s Kaytlin Marlatt, the top-seeded and defending sectional singles champion, beat Liberty’s Bryanna Landers 6-0, 6-0 on Thursday as Division II sectional play continued at Boardman High School. Marlatt has yet to lose a game in the tournament. Other winners Thursday included second-seeded Ashtyn Morris (Salem), fourth-seeded Lexi Tsudis (Ursuline) andunseeded Laura Garvin (Lakeview).

Morris beat Vy Hoang (Ursuline) 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. Tsudis defeated Poland’s Sophie Delatore 6-2, 6-1. Garvin beat Poland’s Lauren Pepperney 6-4, 6-2. Garvin has now won four straight tournament matches.

Singles and doubles semifinals and finals are set to begin at 8:30 a.m. at Boardman High School. In the event of rain, matches will be moved to Boardman Tennis Center.

VOLLEYBALL

Girard 25-25-25, Lakeside 19-14-22

GIRARD

Melanie Bakes made 35 assists to surpass 2,000 for her career. The four-year letter-winner is only the second Girard volleyball player to reach the milestone. Makayla Trebells made 10 kills and 18 digs while Sydney Teter made eight kills and two blocks. Carlie Angelo scored nine points with two aces and Megan Payich made 15 digs.

Canfield 21-25-25-25, Hubbard 25-18-22-22

HUBBARD

Maddy Johns had 15 kills and Natalie Maras had 10 blocks at the net for Canfield. Jenna Varley and Jenny Smith each put up 16 assists. Adria Powell had 14 kills and two blocks for Hubbard. Emily Krinos dished 30 assists.

Edgewood 25-25-25, Poland 12-22-23

POLAND

Jillian Penman made nine kills and three blocks for the Bulldogs. Jen

Molly Barber led Jefferson (16-4,10-0 AAC White) with 33 assists. Emily and Sarah DeGeorge each had 14 kills for the Falcons. Karli Shives led Struthers(2-10,0-4 AAC White) with five kills and three digs.

Newton Falls 25-25-25, Liberty 9-16-9

NEWTON FALLS

Newton Falls (18-1,8-0 AAC Blue) swept Liberty (3-9,2-5 AAC Blue) three games to none. Elizabeth boone led the Tigers with 28 assists and 14 points. Izzy Kline added 15 kills and four blocks, and Ashley Guling had 16 points and 10 digs. Liberty did not provide stats for this game. JV Score Newton Falls 2 Liberty 0.

Champion 25-25-25, Campbell 14-8-12

CHAMPION

Campbell (1-19,0-9 AAC Blue) fell to Champion (7-9,4-3 AAC Blue) in three sets. Campbell was led by Kayla Gavlek’s five kills and two blocks. Janna Jackson had 12 assists and Hannah Michaels had five aces.

St. Thomas Aquinas 25-25-25, Cardinal Mooney 17-14-16

YOUNGSTOWN

Autumn DeSantis had 10 kills and Haylie Sapp contributed 11 digs for Mooney (8-10). Katie Hiestand and Allison May each had 12 kills for St. Thomas Aquinas (17-3).

South Range 19-25-25-17-18, Southern 25-19-23-25-16

SALINEVILLE

Codi Taylor and Cara Mason each had 14 kills in the win for the Raiders (9-10). Mason also added 11 blocks. Gracie Hiner added 12 kills while Ashley McKee had 46 assists and 11 digs. JV: South Range 17-25-25, Southern 25-11-16.

Elise Wallace had nine kills, 18 assists and 15 digs. Natalie Zuchowski had 15 kills and 11 blocks. Annie Menegay had five kills for Marlington.

EAST PALESTINE

MacKenzie Daub had 13 kills, two blocks and six points for Crestview (18-2). Haley Eskra dished 19 assists and scored 14 points. Natasha Salmen had 15 digs for the winning side. Brysten Trosky had seven kills and two points for East Palestine. Madyson Pickett scored five points and had seven assists.

NEW MIDDLETOWN

Camryn Jarrett had 16 kills, three blocks, eight points and an ace as United (12-8) went the distance. Mariah Eisenbraun had six kills, eight points, a block and two aces for the winning side. Sara Chaszeyka had 16 kills and three blocks for Springfield (10-8). Kaelin Yemma dished 30 assists.

Lainie Grope had 26 kills, 17 points and seven aces for Western Reserve. Alexis Hughes had nine kills, nine points and 18 digs, and Elizabeth Bowman had 16 assists, 21 points and five aces. Olivia Woods had 14 digs and six kills and Kylie Jays had eight points, five aces and six kills for Sebring.

CANFIELD

R.J. Thomas led Canfield with a hat trick and an assist. Brenden Maurer scored two goals and Justin Montazeri had a goal and three assists. Ashley Cameron made 10 saves for the Cardinals. Zack Glavic scored for Fitch and was assisted by Brandon Morton.

Girard 3, Jefferson 1

GIRARD

Stephen Gamble, Brennan Kuzman and Dantae Snyder each scored a goal for Girard. Adam Connelly and Antonio Valdez each contributed an assist. Bailey McDermott made six saves for the Indians. Tyler Granz scored a goal for Jefferson.

Lakeview 1, Poland 1

CORTLAND

The battle of Bulldogs ended in a draw Tuesday. Poland’s Matt Slepski had a goal and Lakeview’s Noah Busefink matched him. Harrion Walkama had nine saves for Poland (7-3-3). Lakeview is now 14-0-1.
