Division III Northeast District Tournament
ALLIANCE
Brookfield and Columbiana, along with Warren JFK’s Jimmy Graham clinched a trip to the state tournament Thursday.
Brookfield (325) took first in team play at Tannenhauf Golf Club, beating Columbiana (327) by two strokes.
Brookfield’s top four was Connor Stevens (77), Justin Atkinson (82), Bryce Schell (82) and Nate Smoot (84). Columbiana’s Jared Wilson medaled, shooting 72. Seth Ross (79), Griffin Williams (83) and Matthew Pinciaro (93) round out the Clippers’ top four.
Graham shot 73 to finish in second individually to qualify for state.

JFK’s Marlatt cruises
BOARDMAN
Warren JFK’s Kaytlin Marlatt, the top-seeded and defending sectional singles champion, beat Liberty’s Bryanna Landers 6-0, 6-0 on Thursday as Division II sectional play continued at Boardman High School. Marlatt has yet to lose a game in the tournament. Other winners Thursday included second-seeded Ashtyn Morris (Salem), fourth-seeded Lexi Tsudis (Ursuline) andunseeded Laura Garvin (Lakeview).
Morris beat Vy Hoang (Ursuline) 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. Tsudis defeated Poland’s Sophie Delatore 6-2, 6-1. Garvin beat Poland’s Lauren Pepperney 6-4, 6-2. Garvin has now won four straight tournament matches.
Singles and doubles semifinals and finals are set to begin at 8:30 a.m. at Boardman High School. In the event of rain, matches will be moved to Boardman Tennis Center.

Girard 25-25-25, Lakeside 19-14-22
GIRARD
Melanie Bakes made 35 assists to surpass 2,000 for her career. The four-year letter-winner is only the second Girard volleyball player to reach the milestone. Makayla Trebells made 10 kills and 18 digs while Sydney Teter made eight kills and two blocks. Carlie Angelo scored nine points with two aces and Megan Payich made 15 digs.

Maddy Johns had 15 kills and Natalie Maras had 10 blocks at the net for Canfield. Jenna Varley and Jenny Smith each put up 16 assists. Adria Powell had 14 kills and two blocks for Hubbard. Emily Krinos dished 30 assists.

Newton Falls (18-1,8-0 AAC Blue) swept Liberty (3-9,2-5 AAC Blue) three games to none. Elizabeth boone led the Tigers with 28 assists and 14 points. Izzy Kline added 15 kills and four blocks, and Ashley Guling had 16 points and 10 digs. Liberty did not provide stats for this game. JV Score Newton Falls 2 Liberty 0.
