Poland Union High School and Poland Union Elementary School partner up during the school year for the Big Dog, Little Dog program.

Students from Poland Seminary High School visit the elementary students at Poland Union. The Big Dogs help the Little Dogs and the teachers with different activities they do in the classroom. The program was designed to be similar to a peer mentor program.

The program happens once a week on Tuesday and around 50 students from PSHS come to Union. The high school students work around their class schedule to make sure this doesn’t interfere with their classes or other activities they are involved in.

The high school students work with the elementary students both independently and in groups. The activities that the students participate in are based around the curriculum the teachers are following. The Little Dogs talk to the Big Dogs questions about anything and everything. They talk about what they’re learning in school, what activities they participate in outside of school and several other things. This program allows the younger students to get an idea of what is to come in their education by working with the high school students.

This is the second year the students have participated in the Big Dog, Little Dog program and both schools look forward to continue their relationship with each other to keep the program going.
