Traffic stop turns into foot chase; 3 arrested

AUSTINTOWN

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers arrested three people after a traffic stop turned into a foot chase Monday afternoon in the township.

According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, when troopers initiated a traffic stop on Interstate 80, the driver took the Route 46 exit and stopped at the BP gas station.

One of the passengers jumped from the car and ran into a large drainage pipe that travels under Route 46.

One trooper was injured during the apprehension.

The driver and two other passengers were taken into custody.

The subject who ran was transported to the patrol’s Canfield Post for questioning.

OHSP officials said he faces formal charges.

Climate change lecture

Kirsi Jansa, visiting researcher and video journalist, Institute for Green Science at Carnegie Mellon University, will discuss how to talk about climate change without becoming overwhelmed at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cushwa Hall, Room B100, at Youngstown State University.

Jansa has a bachelor’s degree in communications and journalism from the University of Tampere, Finland.
