Ohio Nonviolence Week continues at 7 p.m. Wednesday with the Simeon Booker Award presentation to be made to Youngstown native Judge Nathaniel R. Jones, retired from the federal appellate court bench.

Tickets are $10 and are available at the DeYor Performing Arts Center, 260 W. Federal St.

I-80 accident

LIBERTY

Ohio State Highway Patrol officials again had to shut down a section of Interstate 80 in Liberty late Monday night after a tractor-trailer was involved in an accident.

The tractor-trailer flipped over shortly after 10 p.m. at mile marker 229 – the same location another crash caused three vehicles, including two tractor-trailers, to catch on fire on Sept. 29.

Crews were working at press time to reopen the roadway. Motorists were being told at 11 p.m. to avoid the area. No injuries are reported at this time.

Blessing of pets set for Saturday

YOUNGSTOWN

Donations of items and money will be collected for Animal Charity at a blessing of pets planned at 1 p.m. Saturday between Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Center and Pavilion, 1025 N. Belle Vista Ave.

All animals must be leased or in crates. If you can’t bring your pet, bring a photo. To remember a deceased pet, print the pet’s name on a piece of paper. Treats will be provided after the service. Owners are asked to clean up after pets if necessary.

Items needed are large and small baskets, bleach, laundry detergent, dry puppy and kitten food, dry and canned dog and cat food, dog leashes and collars, sheets, paper towels, towels, dog and cat toys.

PTA members collecting items

AUSTINTOWN

The Austintown School District Parent-Teacher Association will be collecting personal-hygiene items this week. Items can be dropped off at any school building throughout the week until Friday during regular school hours. PTA members also will be collecting hygiene items Friday evening at the varsity football game at Fitch High School, 4650 Falcon Drive.

All items will be redistributed among the schools, with excess items being donated to the military overseas.
