Mother sues airline for flying 5-year-old son to wrong city

NEW YORK

A New York City woman is suing JetBlue Airways for mixing up her 5-year-old son with another boy and flying him to the wrong city.

Maribel Martinez filled a lawsuit Friday over the Aug. 17 mix-up involving her son, Andy.

Martinez went to New York’s Kennedy Airport to meet the flight her son was supposed to be on but was presented with the other boy instead.

Both boys had flown out of Cibao International Airport in the Dominican Republic. Andy had been put on a flight to Boston instead of New York, and the other boy had been put on the flight to New York instead of the Boston-bound flight he was supposed to be on.

Officials: Kids at day care required to be hit before they could get a snack

LEXINGTON, Ky.

Officials in Kentucky are monitoring a day care center after an investigation found that employees required children to be hit before they could get a snack.

Citing an Office of Inspector General report, media outlets say two male workers at New Creation Childcare in Lexington made children line up and get hit on the legs or hands with a ruler to get some yogurt. At least two children had noticeable bruising as a result of playing “smack for a snack.”

Police cited one of the employees for assault.

Officials also found the day care’s storefront window shattered. Staff said one child had knocked another into the glass.

A state inspector also found that one woman was looking after 27 school-age children, 12 more than permitted under state staff-to-child ratios.

Police call for cease-fire in Paintball Gun War

NEW HAVEN, Conn.

Connecticut police are calling for a cease-fire in a Paintball Gun War before something tragic happens.

The New Haven Police Department on Friday issued a warning that many paintball guns resemble assault-style weapons, and officers can’t quickly determine if the guns are real when answering emergency calls.

Police this week have responded to a dozen calls about shootings in which paintball and BB guns were involved. They say some of the incidents have resulted in serious injuries, and other incidents have led them to engage in dangerous pursuits.

A 10-year-old girl was shot in the head by a BB gun Thursday.
