The Office of Worship of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown will sponsor its annual Liturgy Day from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 15 at St. William Parish, 5411 Mahoning Ave., Champion.
Titled “Raising Our Voices in Praise,” the day will focus on the role, function, and importance of music within liturgy. Michel Guimont, a composer and musician, will be keynote speaker. He is the University of Ottawa choir music director in Ottawa, Canada. He is a composer, having published two complete Psalm Collections and other sacred compositions.
His keynote presentation, “The Unifying Power of Music,” will explore the importance and power of music in worship.
Three sessions of various other workshops will provide further information for priests, deacons, parish staff, liturgy committees, musicians, lay leaders of prayer, liturgical ministers and anyone who is interested in liturgy.

Divorce guide
YOUNGSTOWN
The Office of Pro-Life, Marriage and Family Life of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, in cooperation with St. Charles Borromeo Church, is offering “The Catholic’s DivorceSurvival Guide:” a DVD-based series with accompanying materials that bring hope, healing, wisdom and wit to those who are divorced. This professionally produced series includes top Catholic experts on relationships, love, sex, marriage, divorce, annulment and Church teachings, plus the personal testimony of 12 divorced Catholic men and women who share their real-life stories of hope and healing.
“The Catholic’s Divorce Survival Guide” Part I is being offered at St. Charles Borromeo, 7345 Westview Drive, Boardman, from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 12 and 26 and Nov. 9 and 30. There is no cost; an optional book is available for $15.

On prison ministry
YOUNGSTOWN
A course offered by the Office of Lay Ministry Formation will cover the basics of prison ministry.
Participants will meet six consecutive Thursday evenings, beginning Oct. 13, at St. Patrick Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave. Registration deadline is Oct. 10.
Participants will learn how to get started from a theological, logistical, and practical ministry perspective all in the context of prayer, fellowship, and networking with others interested in prison ministry in the greater Youngstown area. This program is co-sponsored by Catholic Charities Criminal Justice and Prison Ministries.

Blessing of child

Blessed Sacrament Catholic Community, 3020 Reeves Road NE, will have a special Blessing of a Child in the Womb at all weekend Masses, Oct. 8 and 9. It will include the Universal Prayer.
All are invited to fill out a prayer card to include any loved ones or friends who are expecting a child but not able to attend a Mass. The blessing is offered during “Respect Life” month.
Missionary speakers

Lakeview United Methodist Church, Route 173, will host worship services at 11 a.m. with guest speakers. On Oct. 9, Don and Susan Newby from Germany will give the message. On Oct. 16, Dan and Joy Irvine from Haiti will share their missionary experiences. A tureen dinner will follow in fellowship hall.
