God speaks to us through Scripture on our journey of faith

In my devotional time recently, the Lord placed a word on my heart. Yes, I said the “Lord placed a word on my heart,” meaning he spoke to me.

In John 10:27, Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice.” He is always speaking to those whose hearts are open to hear his voice and his word. The word he spoke was very simple. It was, “Supernatural grace will release supernatural strength.”

In 2 Corinthians 12:9, the Apostle Paul writes what the Lord spoke to him: “And he said unto me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.’” It is Christ’s resurrection power that releases the strength needed for all situations. Paul goes on to say, “Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may dwell in me.”

These Scriptures are given to us to encourage us in our walk of faith with Christ. There are many times that we make decisions to carry burdens and hurts alone without first taking them to the Lord in prayer. It happens subtly, as cares of life, struggles, family issues can easily turn from one simple situation to an overwhelming avalanche. However, asking Christ into our hearts, committing all our care upon him and trusting, will release his grace and strength to overcome any obstacle. When we are weak, remember, he is strong.

First, we must see beyond where we are. Circumstances of life are temporary, although they sometimes feel and appear as though they will never end. Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 4:17, “For momentary, light affliction is producing in us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things that are seen, but at the things that are not seen.” So we do not lose heart.

We are on a journey and we are not alone. With every step of each day, we must see beyond where we are, and continue to reach in faith for the promises of the Lord through Scripture and prayer. Every day is a new day that will take us beyond, one step at a time. Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Relying on God’s grace rather than self-reliance changes our focus giving us the strength to move forward. Daily prayer and looking ahead takes us to new territory and releases peace and rest. Every onward step is a victory so we must walk and not look back.

Second, believe that this too shall pass. Things come into our lives, to pass out of our lives. Our perspective must be one of everlasting hope, no matter what. As we walk through trying times, we must encourage ourselves in the Lord and remind ourselves that no matter what, God is faithful. Our tendency when discouraged due to circumstances is to speak exactly what we see. We must learn to place our trust in the Lord and speak to the circumstances with a voice of faith and promise. We, through the power of the Holy Spirit are able to bring change by declaring the word of the Lord.

Scripture reveals all precious and magnificent promises that once uttered and believed will change and transform situations. Scripture reminds us to “Call those things that are not as though they are.” Our natural tendency is to call it like we see it. Instead, let’s see it God’s way and speak the same. There are marriages in turmoil, homes in trouble, addictions, sickness and financial trouble ... trust the Lord. This too shall pass! For every struggle, there is an answer in Scripture. When life brings trouble to the door, resist it with faith and the word of the Lord. God’s word will always accomplish what it was sent to do.

Finally, God releases his grace. It is a saving grace that will encompass and provide us with the strength needed to stand and believe. If you are tired today, declare his strength. If you are lost, call upon the name of the Lord and be saved.

Paul writes in Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” And God promises that when we call, he will answer. Our answer is already here! Reach out to Jesus today, knowing he reaches for you.
