Youngstown Rifle & Pistol Club, 8900 Shaffer Road, is suspending its youth classes in November and December because of the holidays. The classes will return starting the fourth Friday in January.

Turkey shoots at Lowellville club

Lowellville

The Lowellville Rod & Gun Club, 6225 Quarry Road, will have fall turkey shoots every Tuesday through Nov. 22.

Sign-up begins at 6 p.m., and shoots begin at 7. Shoots will be for meat and money prizes. Shells will be provided.

Antlerless-deer permits

As more deer hunters take to the field, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources would like to share a reminder to purchase the correct hunting license and deer permits before deer hunting this season.

When deer hunting in Ohio, a deer permit is required in addition to a valid Ohio hunting license. Antlerless deer permits expire Sunday and will not be valid for deer-gun week except in ODNR Division of Wildlife authorized controlled hunts.

Antlerless permits are valid only in 10 counties. Those counties are Cuyahoga, Delaware, Franklin, Hamilton, Lake, Lorain, Lucas, Portage, Stark and Summit. “Here in Northeast Ohio, there are only six counties where a hunter can use the antlerless permit,” said Scott Peters, District Three Wildlife Management Supervisor. “If there is any confusion at all, please reach out to us so we can clarify the regulations. We’re here to help,” Peters said. Wildlife District Three can be reached by calling 330-644-2293. Hunters also can call the general hot line at 800-945-3543.
