YSU’s Abraham removed from list

Florida Gulf Coast University’s search committee eliminated Martin Abraham, the provost at Youngstown State University, as a semifinalist for FGCU’s president position.
According to a FGCU’s News Press story, the search committee was asked to “pare down the list” by asking committee members to raise their hands when asked if the candidate should be eliminated. Abraham received 15 votes, the highest amount of the eight candidates for the position from the 15-member search committee. Abraham said in a previous Vindicator story that he had no interest in leaving YSU.
Stabbed in shoulder

The owner of a Youngstown Road company was stabbed in the shoulder while confronting a man who stole money from his store Friday afternoon.
The victim, 37, suffered stab wounds to his shoulder, but ambulance personnel said he did not need stitches. The victim said he was going to seek treatment.
The victim said he was in a side room of the business, ACD Communications, 1925 Youngstown Road, when the suspect entered through the unlocked rear door at 2:16 p.m.
The victim said he saw the suspect near the cash register, and the suspect grabbed cash the victim had just placed on the countertop and headed for the rear door.
The victim grabbed the suspect at the rear door, and the suspect stabbed the victim, who then let go. The suspect ran north on Adelaide Avenue Southeast.
Homeowner stabbed

A man, 35, reported being stabbed in the abdomen by a man who lives at his house in the 200 block of Idylwild Street Northeast at 6:56 p.m. Saturday.
The victim said the other man stabbed him in the living room after an argument over the television.
The victim had a small puncture on the side of his abdomen that had stopped bleeding when officers arrived. He also had a small laceration on his hand, and the victim had wrapped a towel around it.
The victim was taken by ambulance to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital. The suspect was gone when police arrived.
Suicide threat

Police deployed two hostage negotiators to talk to a man threatening suicide at a house in the 1900 block of Youngstown Road on Friday night. The man surrendered after more than four hours.
The man had barricaded himself in the house about 9:50 p.m. and had many guns, a friend told police. The man told police his wife had taken the children and left him and that he had been robbed earlier in the day. The man was taken to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
Pretrial hearing in slaying canceled

The final pretrial hearing that was set for today in Trumbull County Juvenile Court in the murder trial of Bresha Meadows, 15, has been canceled. Her attorneys requested the cancellation, and no new court date has been set.
Bresha is charged in the shooting death of her father, Jonathan Meadows Sr., 41, July 28 at the Meadows home. She was 14 at the time.
