Chamber, MAGNET take nominations

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber and Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network, MAGNET, are accepting nominations to honor a Mahoning Valley manufacturer in early 2017 with the first “Excellence in Manufacturing Award.”

The award focuses on a company’s longevity in business, growth, product innovation and achievement.

Nominations are due by Dec. 31, and all nominees will be contacted by Jan. 20. The chamber and MAGNET will present the award at the Chamber’s Economic Forecast breakfast Feb. 2 at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman.

Stonebridge opens

HOWLAND

Stonebridge Grille and Tavern, a popular Boardman eatery, is open in Trumbull County. The new restaurant is at 1415 Niles-Cortland Road and is serving lunch and dinner.

The new Stonebridge Grille & Tavern is more than 7,000 square feet. The restaurant seats 225 in the lounge and dining room. The horseshoe-style bar seats 30. An outdoor patio seats 75. There also is a banquet room that seats up to 50 people and has a private patio.

Sabra hummus is recalled amid listeria concerns

WASHINGTON

Some varieties of Sabra hummus are being recalled amid concerns over possible listeria contamination.

The Food and Drug Administration says the voluntary recall announced by Sabra Dipping Co. includes hummus products with a “best before” date of Jan. 23, 2017, or earlier. The products were sent to retailers in the U.S. and Canada.

The FDA says listeria was identified at the manufacturing facility, but not in the finished product.

Sabra says no illnesses have been reported. Sabra’s organic hummus, salsa, guacamole and Greek yogurt dips are not included in the recall.

Listeria concerns also prompted Sabra to recall about 30,000 cases of hummus last year. The bacteria can be deadly for young children, frail people and the elderly.

EpiPen manufacturer will be a no-show at Senate hearing

WASHINGTON

Pharmaceutical company Mylan is refusing to testify at a congressional hearing next week on a settlement between the company and the Justice Department over its life-saving EpiPen.

In a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee, an attorney for Mylan said company executives wouldn’t testify at the Nov. 30 hearing because the settlement is a pending matter and the Justice Department would also not be attending. Mylan has agreed to pay $465 million to settle allegations that it overbilled Medicaid for EpiPen. At issue was whether the product should have been classified as generic under a Medicaid program.
