UPDATE | Harmful lead levels found in one Youngstown schools’ location

YOUNGSTOWN — Water testing by the Mahoning County District Board of Health found one location with lead levels above the acceptable limit.

The full reports show that one location, a little-used sink in at kitchen at Choffin Career and Technical Center tests at 40 parts per billion; 15 ppb is the allowable limit,

That sink is not to be used and has been identified as such today with a sign, school officials said.

The plumbing of the sink will be replaced before it will be brought back into service.

A previous news release today said that all of the samples came back within the allowable limits. That release referred only to the cover sheets sent by the health department.

The Mahoning County District Board of Health conducted the testing and delivered the results to the district Oct. 28.

The health board tested 12 of the district’s schools as well as the Irene L. Ward Building on West Wood Street and the school bus garage on Teamsters Drive.

Youngstown Early College wasn’t tested because that school is in Fedor Hall on the Youngstown State University campus.
