‘ONCE’ is coming to E.J. Thomas Hall

“ONCE,” winner of eight 2012 Tony Awards including Best Musical and winner of the 2013 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, will play E.J. Thomas Hall Dec. 6 and 7, at 7:30 p.m. both nights.

“ONCE” tells the story of an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant drawn together by their shared love of music. Over the course of one fateful week, their unexpected friendship and collaboration evolves into a powerful but complicated romance, heightened by the emotion of the songs they create together.

Stage Door raises funds for stage

More than 150 people attended a Nov. 11 fundraiser for The Stage Door Academy of the Arts that raised $6,750 toward the $20,000 goal to complete construction of its stage and theater.

The event took place in the space where the theater will be once it is finished in the 721 Building.

The Stage Door opened five years ago by owner Teri Nobbs in a small studio in Poland with 20 students.

It expanded its studio twice in Poland before moving to its current location at 721 Boardman Canfield Road, where Nobbs and her faculty teach some 300 students weekly.

The new stage and theater will feature a 20-foot-by-40-foot stage, backstage area, theater lighting, surround-sound system and seating for up to 170 people.

Two current students at The Stage Door are represented by professional agencies – Bella Palo (Palowitz) in Chicago, and Sarah Themar in New York City.
