Artist Susan Jacobs taught a painting class at Beeghly Oaks for residents, staff members and family members on Oct. 14 with snacks and refreshments.

Several residents and faculty members of Beeghly Oaks invited their friends and family members to attend a Paint and Taste event. Jacobs provided the class with paint, brushes and canvases and taught them step-by-step how to paint an owl. Maureen McCarty, Beeghly Oaks activities director, supplied pizza, drinks and other snacks for the guests to enjoy while working on their paintings.

Jacobs stood in front of the class and gave instructions about what colors, shapes and brushes the guests should used for certain parts. She walked around the room to make sure the guests felt comfortable with what they were doing and didn’t have any questions.

The Paint and Taste event provided an opportunity for family members of the residents to come and enjoy an activity together at Beeghly Oaks. It was a way for the residents to participate in something outside of their normal activities.

One of the resident’s granddaughters, Dani, came to the Paint and Sip to spend time with her grandmother. Dani is preparing to paint a mural at Beeghly Oaks in the near future.

There were also residents who didn’t paint, but came to the event for entertainment.

McCarty said she likes to plan activities the whole community can be involved in. She enjoys giving the residents and the community an opportunity to spend time together while participating in several different and engaging activities.
