At a special meeting on Oct. 25, the Austintown School Board voted to approve longtime Austintown resident and valley businessman Alex Benyo as the new member of the board of education.

Benyo will replace Lou Chine, who resigned in September due to health issues. Benyo will serve out the term, until Dec. 31 of 2017.

Alex Benyo is a 1987 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School and longtime supporter of the Austintown Local Schools. He resides in Austintown and has four children who have all attended Austintown Schools. He is currently the president and co-owner of Taylor-Winfield Technologies, Inc. and the former Vice President and Co-Owner of Brilex Industries, Inc.

“We had 12 excellent candidates to fill the vacancy and we felt that Alex was the best choice at this particular time to move our district forward in the business of educating our students and supporting our staff and administrative team,” said Board President, Kathy Mock.
