Aetna insurance drops Campbell

CAMPBELL

Officials are reviewing bids for a new health-insurance plan for city employees that would take effect in 2017.

Finance Director Michael Evanson said the city’s carrier, Aetna, has revised its business model and will no longer be providing insurance to small entities such as the city.

The city administration is discussing future insurance plans with employee unions. Evanson said discussions include giving city employees the option to contribute more money (via a payroll deduction) for a more comprehensive plan.

“We understood that the employees were highly upset with the health care plan that they had, so we did our best to provide them with another option,” Mayor Nick Phillips said.
