Thanksgiving meal is open to everyone

SALEM

A couple of local families, with help from the community, will once again serve a free Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thanksgiving Day at the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St.

The dinner, which has been going on for more than 25 years, includes turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, vegetable, pie and beverage, and is open to all who have no other plans for the holiday.

No reservations are needed, except for those who want delivery to their homes or need a ride to the building. They are being accepted now until the day before Thanksgiving; call 330-337-3728.

Organizers note that no door-to-door solicitation is usually done for the meal, but this year, students of Salem Self Pro Martial Arts Club may, which has conducted a fundraising kick-a-thon, may knock on your door. Two other major sponsors of the dinner are Salem Fraternal Order of Police Quaker Lodge 88 and Annabell’s Restaurant of Salem.

Downtown Circle, 116 W. Federal St., will have turkey dinner giveaways starting at 2 p.m. Sunday until supplies are exhausted.

Autism grants

YOUNGSTOWN

The Autism Society of Mahoning Valley announced availability of the third annual Mike Hull Memorial Family Mini Grant program.

The grants, up to $500, are to support children and adults with an Autism Spectrum Disorder and families that include an individual with ASD. The grant cycle runs through Dec. 5 or until allocated grant funds are depleted.

Recipients must be residents of the Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties in Ohio and must be diagnosed with an ASD. Applications must be postmarked by Dec. 5. $4M lottery win

WARREN

A Warren resident is the latest winner of an Ohio Lottery draw game.

According to a news release from the Ohio Lottery Commission, Mamie Ball of Warren won $4 million in the Nov. 8 Mega Millions game. The Ohio Lottery says Ball matched all five numbers and no Mega Ball.

She said yes to the Megaplier, which multiplied her second-tier $1 million prize by four. The megaplier number was 4.

After mandatory federal and state taxes, Ball receives a lump sum of more than $2.8 million. Using auto pick, she purchased the ticket from Gasland in Warren. Gasland receives $1,000 for selling a second-tier Mega Millions winner.
