N.H. lawmaker is re-elected and arrested on same day

HOOKSETT, N.H.

A New Hampshire lawmaker wanted by police for failing to show up for a court hearing was re-elected and arrested on the same day.

New Hampshire Public Radio reports that Republican state Rep. Dick Marple was sitting outside a polling place with his campaign signs on Election Day when an officer recognized him. Marple was charged with driving without a valid license in December 2014.

Authorities had issued a bench warrant for his arrest after he failed to show up for a court hearing in October.

Police say Marple drove himself to the police station and was arrested.

He also was re-elected to a fifth term.

Marple said Friday he is being targeted as a troublemaker because he strictly interprets the state constitution.

After poll failure, expert follows through, eats bug

PRINCETON, N.J.

A Princeton University polling expert who said he would eat a bug if Donald Trump got more than 240 electoral votes has followed through on his promise.

Sam Wang, of the Princeton Election Consortium, made good on his Twitter word on CNN Saturday.

He ate from a can of gourmet-style crickets and added in some honey.

He said John the Baptist ate locusts and honey in the wilderness, and he considers himself to be in the wilderness as well.

Wang says on the consortium’s website that polls failed, but that his analysis “amplified” that failure. He apologized for “underestimating the possibility” of Trump winning.

Wang is a data scientist and neuroscientist at Princeton.

Burglar dressed as ninja takes sword from card shop

ANCHORAGE, Alaska

A katana sword is missing from an Alaska card shop after a burglar in a ninja outfit broke in.

KTVA-TV reports that security cameras filmed the costumed suspect entering the Anchorage business sometime after it closed Friday and leaving with what looked to be the Japanese-style, curved sword.

Spenard Bosco’s employee Erich Helmick said inventory is being checked but that so far it seems the sword is the only item missing.

Helmick said the Anchorage Police Department responded to the incident, and a report has been filed.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
