One Scope program canceled, one program added on depression

The Health Awareness Series by Gateway Health, originally scheduled at the Niles SCOPE Senior Center on Friday, is cancelled. Blue Christmas support service

Harbor Light Hospice, Shepherd of the Valley (SOV) and Lane Funeral Home are offering Blue Christmas, a service to provide support, healing and encouragement during the holidays, on Dec. 6 at SOV-Poland, 301 W. Western Reserve Road, Poland.

Area doctor spoke at two international conferences

Dr. Lawrence A. DiDomenico, a podiatric foot and ankle surgeon and managing partner of Ankle & Foot Care Centers, was a speaker at two recent international medical conferences in Florence, Italy.

He presented a research summary poster at the fifth World Congress of the World Union of Healing Societies at Fortezza Da Baso in Florence that summarized research that documented healing rates for a set of diabetic-wound care patients who underwent both wound care and surgical reconstruction to correct deformities.

He also spoke on surgical reconstruction of the diabetic foot at an international conference hosted by the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine at Kent State’s Florence campus.

Shepherd of Valley ratings exceed county and state averages

Shepherd of the Valley’s (SOV) latest Five-Star Quality Rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) exceed county and statewide averages. Nursing homes and home health agencies receive star ratings on the Nursing Home Compare and Home Health Compare websites, each ranging from 1 to 5 stars.

SOV’s Howland community is rated 5.0 stars for Overall Quality; SOV’s Boardman and Niles communities are rated 4.0 stars for Overall Quality, and At Home With Shepherd is rated 4.5 stars, the highest in the tri-county area.
