Master Sgt. Jason Wynn’s career lasted 24 years

Air Force Master Sgt. Jason Wynn retired from the military after 24 years of honorable service Nov. 1 while assigned to the 28th Munitions Squadron, Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D.

Wynn, a Youngstown native and 1992 graduate of East High School, is the son of Theodore and Donna Wynn of Coitsville. His father is a Marine Corps veteran.

Wynn, who earned an associate degree in munitions systems technology from the Community College of the Air Force and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in management, enlisted in the Air Force on Oct. 1, 1992.

He was promoted to Airman 1st class during basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas, and attended Technical School at Lowery AFB, Colo., to become a munitions systems specialist.

During his career, he was stationed at Luke AFB, Ariz.; Osan Air Base, South Korea; Moody AFB, Ga.; Kadena AB, Okinawa, Japan; Incirlik AB, Turkey, and Ellsworth.

Wynn also was deployed to Kuwait; the Philippines; Qatar in support of Operation Southern Watch; Operation Desert Strike; and Operation Enduring Freedom.

His decorations are the Meritorious Service medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; the Air Force Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; the Air Force Achievement Medal; the National Defense Service Medal with 1 Star Device; the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; the Global War on Terrorism Medal; the Korean Defense Service Medal; and the Nuclear Deterrence Service Medal with ‘N’ Device.

He also received the Meritorious Unit Award with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Outstanding Unit Award w/Valor and 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, and multiple service ribbons.

Wynn’s siblings are Monica Wynn of Youngstown and the late Theodore Wynn Jr.

He and his wife, Velma, who will retire from Air Force next year, have two daughters, Naomi, 17, and Gianna, 11.
