Christmas in the Square: A Holiday Celebration, will begin at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 2 in Courthouse Square. It is free, open to the public and family-friendly.

A Christmas parade begins at 6:30 p.m., and the tree-lighting ceremony starts at 7:45 p.m. Santa Claus will appear with his elves for visits and photos with the children from 7 to 8 p.m.

Shoppers can take advantage of holiday shopping hours at participating downtown merchants and a Christmas Marketplace on the Square. Free trolley rides will be available. The Square will twinkle with holiday lights. Featured performances will be by the Penn-Ohio Ballet, the Warren City Wide Youth Choir, Harding Madrigal Singers and New Tomorrows. Stops and activities include the Kinsman House, Log Cabin, Trumbull Family Fitness, Upton House, city hall and Wean Foundation.

Holiday toys

MERCER, PA.

Pennsylvania State Police, Mercer barracks, in conjunction with the Mercer County Children’s Aid Society, will collect new toys through Dec. 9 for county children who may not otherwise receive gifts during the holiday season.

Only new, unwrapped toy donations will be accepted.

Donations will be accepted at the Mercer barracks, state Route 62 in Jackson Center, 24 hours a day.

Child-seat check

BUTLER, Pa.

Pennsylvania State Police will provide a child-seat safety check from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Unionville Volunteer Fire Department, 102 Mahood Road. Walk-ins are welcome from Butler, Beaver, New Castle, and Armstrong and Mercer counties.
