Iowa 14, No. 2 Michigan 13

IOWA CITY, IOWA

Iowa freshman Keith Duncan kicked a 33-yard field goal as time expired and Iowa stunned second-ranked Michigan, damaging the Wolverines’ playoff hopes. Akrum Wadley had 115 yards rushing for the Hawkeyes (6-4, 4-3 Big Ten), who beat a top-five team for the first time in six years. Michigan (9-1, 6-1, No. 3 CFP) appeared to have the game wrapped up on Channing Stribling’s interception of Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard with 1:54 left. But the Hawkeyes defense stuffed the Wolverines, and a facemask penalty put Iowa at Michigan’s 36 with 1:23 to go. Duncan then drilled the ball through the uprights from nearly the exact same spot where Daniel Murray hit the game-winner eight years ago to knock Penn State out of the national title picture.

No. 7 Wisconsin 48, Illinois 3

MADISON, WIS.

Corey Clement ran for 123 yards and three touchdowns and No. 7 Wisconsin intercepted Illinois quarterback Jeff George Jr. four times in rolling to a win. Dare Ogunbowale added 103 yards on seven carries for the Badgers (8-2, 5-2 Big Ten, No. 7 CFP), who rushed for a season-high 363 yards as a team. Wisconsin led by 18 after the first quarter with two scores from Clement, and 31-3 at the half on a homecoming weekend at Camp Randall Stadium.

No. 12 Penn State 45, Indiana 31

BLOOMINGTON, IND.

Saquon Barkley ran for two go-ahead touchdowns in the fourth quarter, helping No. 12 Penn State beat Indiana. Barkley was held to 20 yards on 20 carries though the first three quarters. But the Big Ten’s top rusher stepped up in the final period, helping the Nittany Lions (8-2, 6-1, No. 10 CFP) keep pace with No. 2 Michigan in the East Division with their sixth consecutive victory. First, Barkley found a hole for a 4-yard TD run that made it 28-24. After Indiana regained the lead on Richard Lagow’s 40-yard touchdown pass to Nick Westbrook, Barkley ran over a defender for a 2-yard score with 3:58 left. Penn State sealed the win with a 9-yard fumble return for a TD with 29 seconds left. Barkley finished with 60 yards on 33 carries. Trace McSorley was 16 of 30 for 332 yards with two TD passes and two interceptions.

No. 21 Nebraska 24, Minnesota 17

LINCOLN, NEB.

Tommy Armstrong Jr. led a 91-yard tiebreaking touchdown drive after being helped off the field with an ankle injury the previous series, and Kieron Williams’ interception with 1:29 left secured No. 21 Nebraska’s victory. Armstrong, knocked unconscious in last week’s loss at Ohio State, was cleared to start against the Gophers and was playing one of his best games in weeks when he injured his left ankle on a quarterback sneak late in the third quarter.

Michigan State 49, Rutgers 0

EAST LANSING, MICH.

Tyler O’Connor threw three touchdown passes in the first half, and Michigan State snapped its seven-game losing streak with a rout of Rutgers in what was a matchup of the last two teams in the Big Ten without a conference win. Now Rutgers (2-8, 0-7) is alone at the bottom of the league after the Spartans (3-7, 1-6) raced out to a 35-0 halftime lead. LJ Scott ran for 103 of his 122 yards in the first half, and Demetrious Cox returned an interception for a touchdown. Rutgers never made it farther than the Michigan State 27-yard line — and on that drive in the second quarter, the Scarlet Knights ended up punting from the 30.

Northwestern 45, Purdue 17

WEST LAFAYETTE, IND.

Clayton Thorson passed for a career-best 352 yards and three touchdowns, and Northwestern scored 31 second-half points on its way to a victory against Purdue. Thorson, who also ran for a touchdown, completed 23 of 36 passes, including five for 92 yards and two touchdowns to wide receiver Austin Carr, who tied the school single-season record with 12 TD receptions. Austin Jackson rushed 22 times for 127 yards and a touchdown, and John Moten IV had 16 carries for 119 yards, marking the first time since Sept. 14, 2013 against Western Michigan that two Northwestern backs rushed for more than 100 yards in the same game.
