YSU received $7.5 million in grants in 2016

Youngstown State University faculty and staff were awarded 83 grant awards – $7.5 million – this past year.

It is the largest amount in five years, up from 67 awards and $4.6 million in 2015.

Awards came from a variety of agencies from the National Science Foundation to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Among the grants was a $4 million award from the Air Force Research Laboratory to advance research and development of advanced manufacturing, the largest grant in YSU history.

The university also received its first grant from the National Endowment for the Arts – a $100,000 award to launch a public arts project in Youngstown.

Honorees are: Pat Veisz, Ohio Small Business Development Center director; Angela Cameron, Center for Human Services Development director; Martha Pallante, History Department professor and chairwoman; Michael Crist, College of Creative Arts and Communication retired professor and interim dean; R.J. Thompson, Graphic and Interactive Design assistant professor; Leslie Brothers, McDonough Museum of Art director; Dominic Marchionda, city-university planning coordinator; John Bralich, Global Imaging Systems and Data Services manager and research associate; Brett Conner, College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics professor and director; Nancy Wagner, Nursing professor and chairwoman; Mike Beverly, Center for Student Progress senior coordinator; Sara Michaliszyn, Human Performance and Exercise Science assistant professor; and the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.
