Ramps to be closed for pavement repairs

From 7 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday, the ramp from Interstate 80 eastbound to U.S. Route 62 eastbound and state Route 7 northbound will be closed for pavement repairs, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced. The detour will be exit 234A, U.S. Route 62 westbound and state Route 7 northbound.

From 7 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday, the ramp from Interstate 80 westbound to U.S. Route 62 and state Route 7 will be closed for pavement repairs. The detour will be Interstate 80 westbound to state Route 193 (Belmont Avenue) to Interstate 80 eastbound.

In Mahoning County, ODOT announced the new Vestal Road bridge over Interstate 680 in Youngstown is open after a nearly seven-month, $2.5 million bridge-replacement project.

2 face drug charges

Police arrested two people on charges of possession of heroin Thursday.

Seth Leach, 40, is in St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital on a police hold after police found him about 10:05 p.m. passed out in the bathroom of an apartment in the 3000 block of Canfield Road from a suspected heroin overdose. Reports said in the bathroom was a spoon and syringe both filled with suspected heroin. Leach was revived by paramedics and taken to the hospital.

Alexander Spencer, 21, of Summit Street, was arrested about 5 p.m. at Summer Street and West Evergreen after reports said he was pulled over after running a red light. Officers found he had a suspended license. When he was searched before being placed into custody on the traffic charge, officers found a bag of suspected heroin in his wallet, reports said.

Fight at East High

YOUNGSTOWN

Four students at East High School will be suspended for 10 days and recommended for expulsion after a fight at the school Friday, a school district spokeswoman said.

Several city police officers were called just before noon to assist school security in breaking up the fight.

No one was arrested, and no one was injured.

Appreciation Day

Conroy’s Party Shop, 3518 South Ave., will be celebrating its second annual Community Appreciation Day from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. The event will include a free Thanksgiving meal, live DJ and bands playing, face painting and balloon animals for children, free dental-hygiene supplies, free health screens for adults, a turkey giveaway, free haircuts for boys under 15, and a bounce-around for children.

‘My Brother’s Keeper’

On Monday, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown and U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, will help launch the White House’s “My Brother’s Keeper” program in Warren. My Brother’s Keeper, created by President Barack Obama, is a local initiative to help prepare students for college and career readiness.

During a 10:45 a.m. kick-off event at Kent State University at Trumbull, Brown and Ryan will be joined by Mahoning Valley mentors and mentees. The My Brother’s Keeper initiative works to connect students with community leaders through mentoring relationships and educational events. This program is aligned with the milestones of the White House’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative: to ensure that all youth receive a quality high-school education and graduate with the skills and tools needed to advance to postsecondary education or training.
