Port authority to hear NEOSCC presentation

The Western Reserve Port Authority will dedicate its regular monthly Economic Development Committee meeting to Hunter Morrison, director of the Northeast Ohio Sustainable Communities Consortium.

In 2010, NEOSCC was created after leaders representing the 12-county Northeast Ohio region recognized that the region would be more successful if it worked and built its future together.

Morrison will present the Mahoning and Trumbull County findings published in Vibrant NEO, “A Vision, Framework, and Action Products for Our Future” report. The focus of discussion will revolve around the efforts of the Mahoning River Mayors’ Association and its coordinated planning through its Corridor Initiative strategy for job creation, recreation and preservation. The port authority and NEOSCC plan to seek opportunities for collaboration.

The meeting will take place at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Covelli Enterprises, 3900 E. Market St.

Wall Street bets Trump will spend more, regulate less

It was perhaps the most surprising trade in a record-setting week on Wall Street: How quickly investors swapped pre-election jitters for enthusiasm at Donald Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton.

That enthusiasm – call it the Trump rally – ultimately propelled the Dow Jones industrial average to consecutive all-time highs this week and gave the Standard and Poor’s 500 index its biggest weekly gain in two years. The rally lost some steam Friday, pulling the S&P 500 slightly lower.

The Dow rose 39.78 points, or 0.2 percent, to 18,847.66. The S&P 500 index fell 3.03 points, or 0.1 percent, to 2,164.45. The Nasdaq composite index gained 28.31 points, or 0.5 percent, to 5,237.11.

6 West Point cadets face drug charges

WEST POINT, N.Y.

Six West Point cadets are facing charges they conspired to distribute drugs, the U.S. Military Academy said Friday.

One member of the Class of 2016 and five members of the Class of 2017 were “similarly charged” under military law with conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and wrongful use, introduction and distribution of controlled substances, according to the academy. West Point officials did not say what drug or drugs were involved or provide details about the charges.

Computer outage grounds flights on several airlines

DALLAS

Travelers on several airlines had trouble checking in for flights and waited out delays Friday after a computer outage at a company that runs airline technology systems.

American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Alaska Airlines and Virgin America confirmed that a technology glitch briefly interrupted their operations. The problems seemed to have been fixed by midday, and airlines reported that flights had resumed.

The airlines blamed their difficulties on a breakdown in systems operated by Sabre Corp.
