Third-grade students from Dobbins Elementary visited Fire Station 92 on Oct. 12.

The students went on a walking field trip to visit the fire station to learn more about and explore the station. The tour started with the students getting a lesson in the large training classroom from Bill O’Hara, a fire education specialist. In the classroom, there were students selected to dress in official firefighter gear and in a smoke alarm costume.

After their lesson the students had the opportunity to explore the trucks and different fire equipment. There was a special rescue engine they students got to see that was used at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11. A blow-up firehouse was set up for the students to play in as well.

Poland Township Trustee Joanne Wollet and Officer Steven Kent joined the students during their field trip. When the field trip came to an end, the students had walked away with more knowledge and hands on experience than before.
