Senior Chris Butler will represent Boardman High School at the OHSAA State Cross Country Championship after placing ninth overall in a time of 16:24 at the OHSAA Northeast Regional Championship at BHS.

“I am very happy for Chris,” said Boardman Head Coach John Phillips. “He has had such a tremendous season and has worked for four years to get to state, he certainly deserves this.”

The Spartans finished 17th overall as a team and finish the season with a record of 151-43. Junior Mark Moradian was 78th in a time of 17:44, senior Nathaniel Ams was 95th in a time of 17:50, freshman Mitchell Dunham was 112th in a time of 17:58, senior Nick Digiacomo was 156th in a time of 18:27, junior Luke Hetzel was 176th in a time of 18:40, and senior Dom Eorio was 178th in 18:42.

“I am so proud of this team and what they have accomplished this year,” said Phillips. “The seniors have rebuilt our program the last three years and this season they put Boardman cross country back to where we belong.”

Butler will run at 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 5 at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, seeking the school’s second state champion in boys cross country history.

“Chris is going there to win and will represent our program, school, and community very well on Saturday,” said Phillips.
