Nearly 55 seventh- and eighth-grade STEM students at Austintown Middle School recently took some time to focus on their future, and they are setting their goals high.
Students wrote professional letters to universities and businesses requesting information on a particular career. Some included surgeons, pediatricians, dentists, architects, chefs and electrical, mechanical, architectural and aerospace engineering.
Students received responses in the form of a letter, others were sent goodies from what they hope to be their future alma mater and some were lucky enough to be offered internships and mentor roles for the future.
Their teacher believes the project was important because it not only fits into the STEM program goals, but it is also rooted in language arts and helps the students become familiar with writing, editing and mailing professional business letters.
