Store robbed
YOUNGSTOWN
Reports said a gunman Tuesday evening got away with $270 cash from the Dollar General, 2023 Market St.
Police were called to the store about 8:50 p.m., where witnesses told them a man carrying a handgun with an extended magazine came through the front door and forced all employees and customers to get on the floor behind the counter.
The gunman then reached in the cash register, took the money and ran out of the store, reports said. Police could not find him.
Case continued
GIRARD
A judge Wednesday granted a continuance for a Girard City Schools teacher facing a misdemeanor disorderly-conduct charge.
Daniel J. Nagle of Struthers will appear at 2:30 p.m. next Thursday for his second pretrial hearing.
Police charged Nagle in September after Junior High School Principal Jennifer Santangelo called police to report Nagle had responded in a threatening manner after being written up for a disciplinary infraction.
Nagle entered a not-guilty plea at his arraignment.
Officers find gun, suspected cocaine
YOUNGSTOWN
Police found a loaded .25-caliber semiautomatic handgun and two bags of suspected cocaine Tuesday evening after pulling over a car they said ran a red light.
Reports said a car driven by Jamar Howell, 37, of Tyrell Avenue, was pulled over about 8:55 p.m. at Salt Springs Road and Oregon Avenue on the West Side. After a records check found Howell has a suspended license, he was arrested, and the car was searched before being towed, which is when the gun and two bags of suspected cocaine were found.
Howell was placed in the Mahoning County jail on charges of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, being a felon in possession of a firearm and two felony counts of possession of cocaine.
Removing signs
YOUNGSTOWN
Now that the general election is over, the Mahoning County Recycling Division urges candidates and their supporters to take campaign signs to an Oakhill Renaissance Place parking lot for recycling.
The signs should be placed between the drop-off bins and the southwest corner fence post at Oak Hill and Ridge avenues, but not in the bins, said Peg Flynn, environmental educator with the recycling division.
