Poland Township has a new dog tethering resolution
Staff report
POLAND
Township trustees will soon be enforcing a new dog tethering resolution approved Wednesday night.
The resolution, adopted from a similar tethering rule passed by Boardman Township in January, prohibits any person from “negligently” tethering their dogs under a number of circumstances including:
For more than six hours in a 24-hour period and for more than two consecutive hours without at least an hour between tethers.
If a heat or cold advisory or a severe weather warning is issued by the National Weather Service for the area in which the dog is kept.
The resolution also covers the different types of tethers, the location of where the dog is tethered and other details concerning the dog’s well-being.
“It’s just another tool that allows these animals to be protected somehow,” said Police Chief Brian Goodin.
Goodin said police will likely discover offenders through complaints, which could result in a misdemeanor citation.
