Canfield officials seek extension from ODOT
CANFIELD
Canfield Township trustees are asking the Ohio Department of Transportation for an extension until spring for a drainage project on Starr Centre Drive.
Township Administrator Keith Rogers said although the pipes are installed along the area, he fears weather will be an issue in the near future.
“I’m afraid of having concrete put down and get blasted with snow and can’t cure properly,” he said.
He also expressed concern about asphalt plants closing during the winter season.
Trustees agreed the best option was to ask for the extension and use it if necessary.
“We don’t want to create more issues by trying to correct them,” said Township Trustee Marie Cartwright.
Trustee Chairman Brian Governor said if the weather holds out, he intends to continue with the project.
Trustees also agreed to move forward with The Starr Centre Drive Project by requesting about a $270,000 loan with 0 percent interest from ODOT.
In other news, Rogers reported drainage pipes along the Ohio Turnpike near Pebble Beach Drive are filling with sediment again after being cleared in July.
The sediment previously was causing water runoff, which caused erosion in nearby developments.
Rogers contacted the Ohio Turnpike Commission about the issue in hopes of slowing the water on the turnpike’s side.
