Entrepreneurship week to take place

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Business Incubator and Youngstown State University’s Williamson College of Business are collaborating to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week next week.

Global Entrepreneurship Week will start Monday and continue to Friday. The week is dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of past entrepreneurs and encouraging future entrepreneurs to launch businesses of their own.

YBI has planned free events for the public on each day of the week. Those interested in participating should contact YBI at 330-746-5003 or go to the incubator’s website: ybi.org.

Ohio gas prices up

COLUMBUS

Gas prices in Ohio have increased slightly compared with a week ago while remaining below the state average the same time last month.

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Ohio was $2.10 in Monday’s survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX Inc. That’s 5 cents above the state’s average a week ago and 20 cents below Ohio’s average price of $2.30 reported a month ago. The national average reported Monday was $2.22, the same as a year ago. The average price in Ohio a year ago was $2.23.

Prices typically go down in the fall due in part to lower driver demand. But planned and unplanned refinery maintenance continuing across the U.S. may continue to cause fluctuations in regional prices.

Supreme Court refuses to issue order on voter intimidation

COLUMBUS

The U.S. Supreme Court and federal judges in two states turned down requests by the Democrats on Monday to head off what party leaders say are plans by Donald Trump’s supporters to harass and intimidate voters on Election Day.

The Democrats asked for restraining orders to prevent what they characterized as ballot-box vigilantism by Trump’s Republican presidential campaign and his friend Roger Stone’s political organization, Stop the Steal.

But the Supreme Court issued a one-page denial in a case out of Ohio, with Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg noting that state law already forbids voter intimidation.

Janet Reno, former US attorney general, dies at age 78

MIAMI

Janet Reno, who was the first woman to serve as U.S. attorney general but also became the epicenter of multiple political storms during the Clinton administration, died early Monday. She was 78.

Reno died from complications of Parkinson’s disease, her goddaughter Gabrielle D’Alemberte said, adding that Reno spent her final days at home in Miami surrounded by family and friends.

A former Miami prosecutor who told reporters “I don’t do spin,” Reno served nearly eight years as attorney general under President Bill Clinton, the longest stint in a century.

After retiring from politics, Reno served on the boards or as an adviser to several organizations. She also spent more time with her family.
