YOUNGSTOWN

Nearly 5,000 fans found their way to their seats, anxiously waiting for Beth Moore to present Youngstown’s Living Proof Live at the Covelli Centre on Friday as part of a two-day conference.

Moore, a nationally known religious speaker and author, drew in a crowd of women from the region as well as Columbus and farther ready to hear her word.

Marcia Bohn, Linworth Road Church of Columbus’ women’s ministry director, said she appreciated the truth in what Moore preaches.

“Beth Moore is an amazing teacher, and we do a lot of her Bible studies, and she’s just really trustworthy and believes what she’s teaching,” she said.

Bohn and her 21 parishioners agreed that it was refreshing to see an honest event near the time of such a controversial presidential election.

Kelly Ewing of Columbus said she has been facilitating Moore’s studies for five years, and feeling the depth of them is overwhelming.

“I felt God put it on my heart to purchase her studies and hold them for women,” she said. “Her passion and energy is just infectious. ... I enjoy them and I open it up to everyone else who wants to come on the journey.”

Judy Dean, Youngstown city coordinator, agreed that the sheer “awesome” feelings Moore brings to her events inspire all who attend.

“[Moore] just keeps it real, keeps it simple and loves the Lord,” she said.

Dean said the program was perfect for the city in terms of letting go of “strongholds” people in the area have.

“They don’t have to hold onto that obstacle – they can let it go and just have a knowing in the Lord,” she said. “It’s about seeing them be encouraged.”

She added that Moore’s message about unity could help to combat the heroin epidemic in the city and its aftershocks.

Moore’s Living Proof extends specifically to women, empowering them to be “set free,” Dean said. “That’s what [Jesus] died for, so that we don’t have to live in captivity anymore.”

Ewing said she feels that Moore truly has a heart out for women in every way.

Moore has another session at the Covelli Centre at 8:30 a.m. today, with tickets priced around $69.
