Steelers: Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is still in the mix to return to the lineup on Sunday in Baltimore.
The Steelers (4-3) listed Roethlisberger as questionable on Friday’s injury report. Roethlisberger is less than three weeks removed from surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee. He practiced in a limited capacity all week. Swelling has not been an issue and Roethlisberger said his biggest concerns are pain tolerance and the ability to protect himself in the pocket.
If Roethlisberger can’t go, Landry Jones will make his fourth career start.
Running back DeAngelo Williams (knee) and cornerback William Gay (foot) are also questionable.
Defensive end Cam Heyward, out a month a hamstring injury will return, as will right tackle Marcus Gilbert, out since a win over Kansas City last month with a left ankle injury.
NFL fines: Green Bay linebacker Datone Jones was fined $36,464 by the NFL on Friday for his roughing-the-passer penalty against Atlanta last week.
Jones is a repeat offender, resulting in the large amount doled out by the league Friday. Last Sunday, Jones hit Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan in the first half of Atlanta’s 33-32 victory.
Arizona’s Calais Campbell and Rodney Gunter each got fined $18,231 for hits on Carolina’s Cam Newton last weekend. Gunter was fined for a low hit on Newton, for which he was penalized in the game, unlike Campbell.
Newton had a phone conversation with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday about his perspective on the hits he takes from defensive players while in the pocket. He said after the game he didn’t feel protected in the pocket after no flag was thrown when Campbell crashed into his legs as he was releasing the football.
Also from that game, Carolina’s Leonard Johnson has to pay $9,115 for unnecessary roughness after ripping Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer’s helmet off.
Cincinnati’s Shawn Williams was docked $24,309 for spearing, a result of a hit on Washington’s DeSean Jackson during the teams’ 27-27 tie in London last Sunday.
Also fined $24,309 for unnecessary roughness penalties last weekend were Detroit’s Tavon Wilson and Oakland’s Karl Joseph. The Raiders’ Donald Penn was also hit with an $18,231 fine for unnecessary roughness, while Michael Crabtree has to pay $9,115 for taunting.
Buffalo’s Nickell Robey-Coleman was fined $18,231 for unnecessary roughness after a late hit on New England’s Danny Amendola in the Bills’ 41-25 loss.
Jacksonville’s Jalen Ramsey and Dante Fowler each were docked $9,115 for unnecessary roughness against Tennessee.
Dolphins: Ttight ends Dion Sims and Jordan Cameron have been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Jets because both are still in the concussion protocol.
Cameron has missed the past four games, and Sims has missed one game.
Cornerback Xavien Howard was also ruled out, as expected, because of a knee injury.
Guards Laremy Tunsil (abdomen) and Jermon Bushrod (shoulder) are listed as questionable, but both participated fully in practice Friday.
Broncos: Denver will be without Pro Bowl cornerback Aqib Talib for its Sunday night showdown with the Oakland Raiders.
Talib was sent for a cortisone injection in his lower back Friday and coach Gary Kubiak said he was optimistic that will help Talib return to the field soon.
Talib missed Denver’s 27-19 win over San Diego last week when his back stiffened during the team’s walkthrough the day before the game.
Bradley Roby started in his place and earned the AFC’s defensive player of the week honors after recording seven tackles, two pass breakups and a pick-6 .
