Beeghly Oaks hosted the first annual car show and end of the summer family picnic on Oct. 1.
The car cruise was dedicated to Ralph Ambrosia, a former Beeghly Oaks resident who had passed away, and his family. All of the proceeds raised from the 50/50 and Chinese auction will be donated to the Scleroderma Foundation.
“He was such a sweetheart and he collected cars. He was a big car fan. He was really looking forward to this car show and he passed before it happens so we dedicated it to him,” said Beeghly Oaks activities director, Maureen McCarty.
There were several cars brought in and put on display for the residents and guests to vote on for their favorite. Each guest received three tickets to use to vote for their favorite cars. The top three winners won an award at the end of the event. There was also a wheelchair decorating contest among the residents. They would decorate their wheelchairs however they wished and guests voted for their top three favorites. The residents at the end would also receive an award along with the car winners, the 50/50 raffle winner and the Chinese auction winner.
Gift bags were donated by those who brought in a car to put on display and other donors. There was food provided by Beeghly Oaks and other families for guests to enjoy and the Take II band provided muscal entertainment. Eighth-grade Boardman cheerleaders attended the car cruise to help out with the residents while also performing some of their own cheer dances and routines.
“Because this was the first annual, we are hoping to have more of a turnout next year,” said McCarty.
