Canfield woman got scammed on World Series ticket, missed game
Staff report
WARREN
A Canfield woman had a different reason than most people for being disappointed in Wednesday’s deciding World Series game in Cleveland, which the Chicago Cubs won in extra innings over the Cleveland Indians.
The woman, 29, discovered she had been scammed by someone who said she had a ticket to sell but who never delivered the ticket.
The victim, who works in Warren, reported the scam to Warren police, who filed a report and advised her to see the Warren prosecutor to pursue charges.
The seller advertised the ticket on Facebook and said she was selling it on Craigs-list.
After transferring $800 for the ticket to the seller through MoneyGram, the Canfield woman waited for an emailed confirmation the ticket had been transferred to her. But the confirmation never came, she said.
“I didn’t go at all [to the game] because I was so upset,” the woman said. “It’s a bummer I didn’t get to go, plus the loss of the money,” she said.
