The Poland Seminary High School band hosted its annual pasta dinner on Oct. 2 at the PSHS cafeteria.
The Poland Band Parents organize the pasta event every year for the last 15-20 years. The money raised from the dinner goes to the PSHS marching band students, who are under the direction of Nick Olesko and Jeff Hvizdos. The profits are used for traveling, camps and other marching band expenses.
The pasta dinner brings in around 800-900 people each year and raises around $4,000. The dinner is the biggest fundraiser, aside from TAG day, for the PSHS marching band. There are more than 150 students in marching band who will be receiving money for band expenses.
“In the past they’ve traveled to Universal, Disney World, Cedar Point. This year they are working toward their accounts for Disney next year,” said Melissa Kellgren, one of the PSHS band parents.
Band students and parents volunteered to work the pasta dinner and make things run smoothly. The volunteers spent the day cooking pasta, setting up tables in the cafeteria and passing out food to the guests.
The dinner was sponsored by the Poland Giant Eagle, DiNero Foods and Cerni Motors. Band parents donated a variety of desserts to pass out with the pasta, salad and bread dinners.
Tickets could be purchased prior to the dinner or the day of.
The pasta dinner was followed by the Poland Wind Ensemble’s Fall Pops Concert in the auditorium, which was free of charge.
