Students and families from Austintown Intermediate and Elementary School celebrated the third annual pep rally on Oct. 6 in the parking lot at Austintown Intermediate School.

Faculty members, parents and students from Fitch high school volunteered to work the different stations at the pep rally. There were bounce houses provided by Austintown Bounce, food provided by Pizza Hut and Barry Dyngles and several other games and activities for the students to participate in.

The admission price for tickets was $3, which allowed the children to do everything in the pep rally for free except the dunk tank and the concessions. More than 250 tickets were sold prior to the event and several other students bought tickets at the pep rally with more than 300 students showing up to the pep rally. The money raised from the pep rally goes back to the students to help fund their holiday parties and other activities throughout the school year.

“The students get a little bit of freedom to play at school and talk to their friends because they don’t get a lot of that. They get the freedom to play and have fun,” said Mandy Richmond, PTA member and pep rally co-chair.

Austintown Fitch High School students from National Honor Society, the football team, the robotics team and other organizations volunteered to help with the pep rally and spend time with the younger students. Having the high school students volunteer gave the younger students the opportunity to spend time with the people they look up to.

“I like the dunk tank, it’s really excited to see the kids get excited after they knock the teachers in,” said Kacie Tekach, senior NHS member who volunteered for the pep rally.

The pep rally was to get the students into the Falcon spirit for the homecoming football game on Oct. 7 and the homecoming dance on Oct. 8.
