Trump’s son, Sanders to visit

Eric Trump, a son of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, will visit Mahoning County Republican Party headquarters, 8381 Market St., between 2:45 and 3 p.m. today. He is the first surrogate to come to Mahoning County for his father since mid-September.

Also, U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders will speak in support of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton at 12:15 p.m. Thursday at Youngstown State University. Sanders will speak at YSU’s Stambaugh Stadium Gym C. Doors will open at 11:15 a.m.

Drug-ring members

All the local members of a suspected drug ring a Mahoning County grand jury secretly indicted last week are now in custody.

Austintown police Lt. Jeff Solic, head of the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force, which investigated the case, said the last two suspects surrendered to authorities Tuesday. Arrest warrants were served Monday.

Of the 20 people charged with bringing in heroin and marijuana and selling it in Youngstown, 16 were from Youngstown and two from Campbell. The only two people who are not in custody are two people who were indicted who are from California.

Lunch and learn

CANFIELD

Ohio State University Extension, 490 S. Broad St., will host a lunch-and-learn program from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday. Participants will get updates on farm programs through agriculture organizations in Mahoning County, including cost-share opportunities, fertilizer certification, and conservation efforts. The program is free for farm bureau members and costs $5 for nonmembers. To register, call 330-533-5538.

Change batteries

NEW MIDDLETOWN

The village fire and police departments have received a donation of 400 9-volt batteries from Energizer Holding Inc.’s “Change your Clock, Change your Battery” program. Free 9-volt batteries may be picked up at the municipal building during normal business hours Monday through Friday while supplies last. A limited number of free smoke detectors are also available. Safety forces said turning clocks back an hour Sunday is a good time to change smoke-alarm batteries.
